WATCH: A Wild Look Inside The Decrepit Pontiac Silverdome

It used to hold 80,000 people. Now, it’s empty.

The Silverdome (located in Pontiac, a suburb of Detroit and the county seat of Oakland County) has been quiet for awhile. The deterioration of the building and the roof created a situation where the roof collapsed in 2012 and the elements started getting in. There hasn’t been a Lions game played here for more than a decade.

The stadium is owned by Triple Group Properties (Andreas Apostolopoulos) who also owns Detroit’s iconic Penobscot building and has been angling for a pro soccer team. He recently sold the historic State Savings Bank next to the Penobscot to Dan Gilbert after being denied the ability to turn it into a parking structure. Local activists are looking for help in addressing the blight situation.

We’re hoping to see some progress, too.
