Things To Do In Detroit: Your City 5 For The Weekend Of May 1st-3rd

The weather calls for mid-70s and mostly sunny this whole weekend.  This is going to be a great chance to walk outdoors, and visit some of the places in Detroit you have been waiting for.  Here’s our weekend line up:

Friday: Detroit Restaurant Week – Detroit’s most reputable food week is kicking off tomorrow and continues till May 10th.  The list includes 17 of the most reputable restaurants in the metro-Detroit area and should be highly anticipated to offer finest cuisine you’ve had in our City.  If you’re having trouble deciding which restaurants to check out, then visit our Top 5 Detroit Restaurant Week picks here.  You may also want to join their newsletter to receive any additional information or bonuses offered by restaurants as the week progresses.

Friday and Saturday: Cinco Bash – The largest annual metro-Detroit Cinco De Mayo celebration is also happening this weekend and is spread over two days.  Friday, May 1st from 3pm to 12am, the West Village Commons in Downtown Dearborn will be hosting a Tent Bash and a Festival.  If you have kids and would like to share the celebration with them, don’t hesitate.  There will be large Kid Zone party happening from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, offering a variety of activities both parents and children can participate in.  Saturday will be offering a few eating competitions, so if you have a stomach for large burritos, hot peppers, and chorizo sausages then I highly suggest you sign up and bring your appetite.

Saturday: Shed 5 / Eastern Market – Get a first look at a few major new components of Eastern Market on Saturday, May 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Join Eastern Market staff, vendors, and area-leaders for the formal ribbon cutting, then take a gander at all the additions and enhancements to Shed 5! The Shed 5 project includes a fully-restored public market space as well as a first-of-its-kind Community Kitchen, educational and meeting space (The Kid Rock Kitchen Commons) and the new, outdoor DTE Energy Foundation Plaza. The Eastern Market will also be open, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., for shopping and picking up fresh farm-grown foods on your way out.

Saturday: Madeon @ Royal Oak Music Theatre – Madeon’s debut album, “Adventure” is one of the hottest album’s this year. I promise, this is a show that you won’t want to miss! **w/support from the M Machine**  Show starts promptly at 8pm and will go to about 12:30 am.

Friday through Sunday: Metro Times Blowout – Now in its 18th year, Metro Times Blowout continues its run as one of the most legendary music events in metro Detroit. Thousands of bands from every genre imaginable have played everything from large music venues to the back rooms of dive bars. Our Joel Gullickson has compiled a list of selections from other bands on what they recommend you check out.

Saturday: Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather – If you haven’t heard yet, the biggest and most anticipated fight in boxing history is happening this Saturday.  Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will put all the fuss amongst the most delayed match in boxing history to rest as the two dual out and put everything on the line. Although the event will begin at 8 p.m., the main event will begin at approximately 11 p.m.

Heads up, though – most of these bars will be charging a premium to watch the fight so be sure to inquire and find out all the details.
