“After the show it’s the after party, and after the party it’s the hotel lobby, and…” Well, you know the rest.
We here at Daily Detroit love Movement, and as any of our veterans will tell you, the only thing that tops this one of a kind festival is what goes down once final beat of the night echoes out from Hart Plaza into oblivion – the after parties.
There’s simply no better way to keep partying with your new festie besties, or that remarkably handsome Spanish dude/chicka you met at Disclosure than with an all night dance extravaganza in the birthplace of Techno.
From grimy after hours spots to popular Detroit music venues, the D will be swarmed with festival refugees looking to keep things rolling until festival gates open the next day. And they’re in luck, because come Movement, not even the sun can stop a party in Detroit.
That said, here’s our list of 5 parties we think are worth your while. If these don’t pique your interest, visit the Movement website for even more options. If that’s still not enough, you’re a psycho, but we support you, so here’s a nice list put together by the folks at Fest300.
Oh, and if you’re new to Detroit, be sure to chat up the locals about their late night plans, too… You may just end up having the greatest night of your life.
See one of this years most anticipated acts, Disclosure, perform a DJ set back to back with Detroit legend, Kevin Saunderson. Dantiez Saunderson (Kevin’s son) and Gene Farris kick off the night. Enough said.

This one is a little different than your typical after hours rageathon, though you’ll still want to bring your dancin’ shoes. Hosted by Get Summered and Playground Detroit, this event pays homage the first year of our famed festival (when it was known as DEMF), through personal photos and found footage from the festival’s debut year in 2000. Also, enjoy jams all night long from DTCHPLNES, Dj Jefferson Davidson, DirtyBoogie, Bill Spencer, and many more. Added bonus – this shindig is free of charge!

All Good Records, the label launched earlier this year by Detroit’s very own Griz, is throwing a fresh little shindig at Bookies downtown. Featuring Gosh Pith, Mekato, and Muzzy bear, along with support from Beatloaf, Roque Ybarra, Robert Perry, and Lomen. This one is sure to blow your flip flops off, and who knows, you may even catch an extra Griz set late night; or at least be able to buy the dude a drink for being such a gentleman.
