The weekend is closing in, and we are at your service when it comes to providing the best, most commonly overlooked series of events happening right in your backyard. This weekend has plenty of interesting events engaging different corners of the community. We hope to catch you folks out at some of these events!

Friday & Saturday: Metro Detroit Etsy Craft Party and Pop-Up Shop – June 5 and 6, the Rust Belt Market will be hosting a pop-up shop for local Etsy artists to showcase all of their apparel. Etsy, if you are unfamiliar, is a marketplace for handmade goods, vintage items, and supplies for making your own creative projects. The Etsy community is comprised of individual businesses from around the globe and offer pop-ups every-so-often to showcase the local talent making waves in the apparel world. This event will be a great chance for meeting up other locals, shop, and be a part of the local artists’ growth.

Friday: Inside-Out by Daniel Cicchelli: Open House Mixer – The Heidelberg Project is a one of kind house, properly named the Number House and is now showcasing Daniel Cicchelli’s new project during a special open-house mixer this Friday from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Daniel will be unveiling his perception of the art world and the struggles during the creative process that he feels is very unprocessed, visceral, and crude. The POST-HAB Gallery at the Number House will be featuring his work through the month of June and can be seen during gift shop hours. Live music will be carrying the gallery into a night of celebration and dance as the art show segment comes to an end. If you have not seen the Numbers House, then this is an excellent reason to make a visit!

Saturday: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Riverfront Run/Walk – The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is hosting a Riverfront Run/Walk, your preference, this Saturday at 9 a.m. at 1340 Atwater Street.  The event will feature a 5K and a 10K, both can be done by walking or running. The proceeds of this event are going toward the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. The participants will be given a performance T-shirt, commemorative medals for completion of the marathon, and a one-day admission pass to the Conservancy’s Detroit River Days festival. If you’re in need of a fitness kick, then I recommend participating in this event and enjoying the scenic route.  Registration can be done here.

Saturday: Inner State Gallery presents – LAX/DTW Thinkspace Invades DetroitThere are not enough words to explain how elaborate and exciting an event like this really is. Detroit’s Inner State Gallery will feature over 80 local and international artists curated by Los Angeles based gallery Thinkspace. For the eighth iteration of Thinkspace’s traveling group exhibitions, co-owners Andrew and Shawn Hosner hand picked Detroit to showcase one of their most ambitious collections to date. As part of the exhibition the Hosners have also picked two featured artists, Stephanie Buer and Liz Brizzi for their unique hyperreal depictions highlighting Detroit’s vast and varied landscapes. This event will be free and open to the public with an artists reception June 6 from 7-10 p.m.

Sunday: The 42nd Historic Indian Village Home & Garden Tour- Day 2 – This event is truly a memorable one for all of the beautiful homes of Indian Village.  This event will mark the 120th anniversary of the Indian Village community and the homes that have seen so much of the Detroit history and preserved their grace for citizens to take a slight peek into our past.  The tour will feature a visit through nine homes, 1 garden, and a carriage house. This is a great way to spend the Sunday with loved ones and for new Detroit folks who have yet to venture around the neighborhoods keeping the beauty alive.  Ticket prices for the tour are available in single day and two-day packages, $25 to $45 respectively.

As always, enjoy your weekend, and we will see you here next week! If you need more events, don’t forget our events page with all the things to do in Detroit.
