What’s up Detroit, we’re back once again with your weekend roundup on the City 5 with Daily Detroit.

We’re halfway through the month of August and the days aren’t getting any longer, so let’s get out there and enjoy summer’s twilight month!

African World Festival – Friday – Sunday – Charles H. Wright Museum, Detroit

Starting Friday afternoon, celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Wright Museum with their African World Festival.

This renowned Festival will draw thousands attendees to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, for a weekend full of performances, poetry, arts and crafts, African drumming and dance, ethnic foods, and more!

There is a little extra excitement this year for Julian Marley’s – son of famed reggae star Bob Marley – performance on Sunday.

Marley’s performance, along with the long list of talented performers, makes this event one of the best of the summer!

The FREE 3-day festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day and will be fun for the whole family.

Inner State Gallery Presents Lyrics III Curated By Glenn Barr – Friday 7 p.m. – Inner State Gallery, Detroit

If you’re looking to dabble is the budding Detroit art scene, then check out Inner State Gallery’s newest exhibition, Lyric 3.

Now in its third year, this musically themed group exhibition is curated by legendary Detroit artist Glenn Barr, and features work from over 50 artists from around the world.

Each artist was given a 12×12 canvass to create work inspired by his or her favorite artist, album, song or lyric. The result is a series of deeply personal and often moving works that mimic 12-inch vinyl album covers.

Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise – Saturday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. – Pontiac to Ferndale

This Saturday marks the 21st anniversary of the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise, which if you’re like most Michiganders, you either love or hate with all of your heart.

For our purposes today, we’ll focus on the love.

The coveted annual classic car take over draws over 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars from all over the world to the Metro Detroit area each year.

You can hop in your car and cruise along Woodward with the classics, or grab some lawn chairs and a cooler and set up shop wherever you can find room along the 16-mile stretch from Pontiac way to Ferndale.

While enthusiasts have been posting up on real estate along Woodward for the last few weeks, the actual cruise takes place Saturday from 9am-9pm.

This event is free and there is no end to the sights and sound for the whole family to enjoy!

Mad Decent Block Party – Saturday 3 p.m. – Russell Industrial Center, Detroit

If you cruised all day and are trying to push through until Sunday’s sunrise, then you’re in luck, because this Saturday marks the return of the Mad Decent Block Party’s annual stop in Detroit.

The 19-city tour is essentially the Warped Tour equivalent for EDM fans all across the country, and this year, it’s going down at none other than the famed Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.

Catch EDM Heroes like Chicago’s Flosstradomous, Toronto’s Zeds Dead, Norway’s Cashmere Cat, and many more.

With 10,000 confirmed guests on the event’s Facebook page, you can bet this is going to be one rowdy night.

Detroit Lions Family Day – Saturday, 2 p.m. – Lions Headquarters, Allen Park

If you’re looking for something a little more wholesome on Saturday, then head down to The Detroit Lion’s Family Day Training Camp at the team’s headquarters and outdoor practice facility in Allen Park.

This free and family friendly event features a myriad of game and activities, along with live music, and lots of great prizes for the kiddos.

This free event is a great way to entertain the kids while simultaneously getting your fix of Lions football.

The event starts at 2pm and the practice runs from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
