Sometime we write about expansions from big companies and big places. Other times, it’s Detroit’s revitalization a few thousand square feet at a time.
If you’re into the rehabilitation and renovation of buildings and haven’t heard of Brick & Beam Detroit or Building Hugger, maybe you should. The first, Brick & Beam Detroit, is a community for building rehabbers that aims to support rehab in Detroit by sharing knowledge, building talent, and providing access to resources. The second, Building Hugger is a Detroit-based renovation firm specializing in wood window restoration and repair.
Building Hugger and Brick & Beam Detroit will be showing off their new home from 1 to 4 P.M. on Saturday, January 30th for a visit to Building Hugger’s new home in Eastern Market.
Located in a prominent commercial corridor in Eastern Market, the 6,000 square foot building features a walkup storefront and two unloading bays, this event will let you see behind the scenes in a restoration shop, and if you’re interested, learn some weatherization tips while you’re at it.
It promises to be a space where the startup preservation services company can grow over time. During the visit, friends and fellow rehabbers will mix and mingle with the Building Hugger crew while touring the workshop and participating in a demonstration about weatherization.
The demonstration will focus on understanding energy concerns with regard to windows, including a discussion of single vs. double pane glass, weatherstripping options, and storm window solutions.
Attendees will also be asked for input on some exciting future plans for Building Hugger’s retail and DIY training spaces, still in development.
