Human Bowling, Keg-O-War And More Are Coming To Detroit Thanks To The Labatt Games

Play episode

Sure, it’s not the actual Olympics, but it looks like a barrel (or keg?) of absurd fun.

Detroit is one of five cities that will play host to the Labatt Undomesticated Games that feature sports such as Human Bowling, Oversized Slingshot, Roller Dash, Undomesticated Challenge, and Keg-O-War.

This edition of the games will be held on Belle Isle on July 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The Events

How do you become a human bowling ball, you may ask? Well, if you’ve ever seen one of those giant inflatable balls you can climb in – well; you hop in and try to take out as many pins as possible.

The Oversized Slingshot will involve taking aim with a giant slingshot at a series of targets. The entire crew will need to relay the balls back to the slingshot to get off as many chances as possible before time runs out.

Roller Dash is a game of who wants it more. In groups of 3, your team must out hustle your opponents to gather as many balls as possible.

The Undomesticated Challenge is a type of gladiator-esque test, if you remember that old TV show. The team will need to make their way through a series of six obstacles with a slip and slide finish.

Keg-O-War is simple in construction but difficult in weight and involved moving 4 kegs of varying weights across the finish line. The faster the time, the more points.

If you’re interested in putting a team together, registration is now open for teams of six. Each team must have at least two female contestants and costs $125 for the entire team.

The other cities are Erie, PA; Buffalo, NY; Cleveland, OH and Saratoga Springs, New York. Locally, Labatt sponsors the popular Come Play Detroit organization, among others.

  • …Anyone trying to sign up and having problems? Apparently we need a “promo code” to register. Also, the above register link takes you to a 404 page. I have a team and really want to do this!
