Although the image of skinny jeans and vinyl shops stereotypically goes together, the data shows that as far as actually buying records it may not be true.
It turns out that it might not be the young “hipster” that’s the root of the resurgence of vinyl records, but the reminiscent middle aged person – and a middle aged person who has an introvert streak.
When compared to the adult population as a whole, those that have purchased a vinyl album recently are more likely to be aged between 45-54. By contrast, those in the 18-24 aged group are the least likely.
Also, those who enjoy vinyl have an introvert streak and dig music more so than the average – 66% of vinyl buyers “can’t get through the day” without music, compared to 49% of all adults.
Vinyl buyers are slightly more likely to both keep their feelings to themselves (56% vs. 53%) and enjoy being alone (69% vs 66%).
