Your City 5: Things To Do In Detroit For The Weekend Of November 4-6

Play episode

Is anyone else in denial that it is already November? I guess it’s time to get prepared for Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season.

There are a lot of great things happening this weekend. I wish I could clone myself so I could go to all of these events.

Depression Glass Show – Dearborn

This weekend is the 44th annual Depression Glass Show at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. The two day show will be held on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6.

My inner glass collector is completely freaking out about this show. I never knew it existed until a few months ago. Now that I know about it I can’t stop thinking about all that glass. I have a pretty great collection of green and pink glass already, and I am looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful colors of glass.

Here are the details; there are over 25 different dealers selling glass that was made before 1970. There will be over 15,000 square feet of vintage and depression era glassware on display. If you have any pieces that you want to be identified bring them along, because there will be glass experts.

I’m sure my husband is not looking forward to me going this weekend.

While it says everyone is welcome, I have a feeling that my toddler would be a bull in a china shop. He will be staying at home. If you do decide to bring young kids, leave the strollers in the car because they ask you to not bring them.

Admission is a $5 donation. Hours: Saturday 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center is located at 15801 Michigan Avenue Dearborn, Michigan 48126.

The Dale Hicks Band will be performing live music.

This is a 21 and over event. Tickets are $20 per person, contact Dave Flack at 734-658-3507 to purchase tickets. You can also reach him via email flackshack4@wowway.com.

All Things Detroit – Detroit

I don’t know about you, but I love buying things from small businesses. I love being able to talk to the owner and get to know about them and their process. If I’m giving an item as a gift I like that there is a story attached to the purchase, plus it keeps my money closer to home.

All Things Detroit is going to be popping up at Eastern Market on Sunday, November 6. This is the third All Things Detroit event that has happened this year.

I’m pretty sure you could get your entire holiday gift list checked off at one event. There will be over 200 vendors, crafters, artists, food trucks set up at Eastern Market. Check out the Faygo Candles from Motor City Creations.

You can find out more information at the All Things Detroit Website, or on the app.

Advance tickets are $5 per person, they will be $7 at the door. Children under 12 will be free. Beat the Crowd tickets will be $15 per person. (Children 12 and under will also need a ticket for the early shopping.)

General shopping hours are 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM. (You can buy a Beat the Crowd ticket and get in at 8:30 AM.). Eastern Market is located at: 2934 Russell Street Detroit, Michigan 48207

An Evening With Booker T Jones – Detroit

I’m hoping there are readers who are old enough to know who Booker T is, because even though I’m 35 I have listened to his music since I was a child.

I’m sure you’ve heard Green Onions, which is one of his most famous pieces of music. Booker T is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and has played with numerous musicians over the years. Writing this little blurb doesn’t do his career justice.

He will be performing at the El Club on Sunday, November 6.

Tickets are $50 per person.

The bar opens at 5:00 PM, and the show starts at 8:00 PM. The El Club is located at 4114 W. Vernor Detroit, Michigan 48209

Just an aside, I highly recommend listening to the interview he did with Marc Maron on the WTF podcast. It is episode 440, so you’ll have to pay for it. But it is well worth the money.

Pocket Notebook Party- Detroit

Have you ever been interested in learning how to make your own bound notebooks? I know I have been.

Each person will take home three pocket notebooks.

Admission is $12 per person. You can pay for the class in advance, or the day of. Hours: 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM (Just drop in when you have time.)
