UFO Factory in Detroit

If you are staying in town this weekend, or visiting the family — we have you covered for some fun things happening around town.

Post-Turkey Day Soul Stomp

The Motor City Soul Stomp is a fun event that used to call St. Cece’s it’s home until the venue met it’s date with Detroit bar history. Now at the UFO Factory just a few blocks down the street, the Motor City Soul Club is spinning old-school funky and soul things to dance to. Check out the sample below. Put on your dancing shoes from 10 p.m. — 2 a.m.

The UFO Factory is at 2110 Trumbull in Detroit, Michigan.

Manger Things — Ferndale

It is time for the annual holiday show at Go Comedy in Ferndale. It’s opening weekend and they will be performing Manger Things, a spoof on the Netflix show Stranger Things.

If you plan on going to this weekends show be sure to buy your tickets in advance because they will probably sell out. The show starts at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Tickets are $20 per person.

P.S. Make and evening of it and stick around for The Interviewees, which is an improv show. Tickets for that show are $15. | Go Comedy is located at 261 E. 9 Mile Road Ferndale, Michigan 48220

Hamtown Races — Hamtramck

I’m doubling down this weekend on live performances, because this is really cool. You can get discount tickets to see Hometown Races at the Planet Ant.

This week is the opening week for the original Planet Ant show. This is the second time the show has been staged. The first time was in 2012.

Tickets are normally $20 per person, but you can get them for $10 during opening week. If you can’t make it this weekend, the show runs through December 17.

Planet Ant is located at 2357 Caniff Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

Y Arts Rockin Art Bash — Detroit

This year the Y Arts and humanities branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit will be holding the Y Arts Rockin Art Bash at the Marlene Boll Theater inside the Boll YMCA downtown.

The rock documentary Louder Than Love- The Grande Ballroom Story by Tony D’Annunzio will be screened along with an exhibit of poster artwork.

Step back in time to when the Grande Ballroom was at the center of the Detroit rock scene.

Proceeds of the event will go to help support the YMCA and the work they do to help bring youth and families art classes and events.

Tickets for the event are a steal. General admission is $25 per person, and if you want to be a VIP tickets are only $40. This event is 18 and over.

The party starts at 8 p.m. (VIP starts at 7 p.m.) and goes until 11 p.m. | The Boll YMCA is located at 1401 Broadway Street Detroit, Michigan 48226

Eastern Market Sunday Holiday Market — Detroit

It goes without saying that Eastern Market is one of my favorite places to shop at. During the holidays it is no exception. The sheds will be filled with all types of great items on Sundays leading up to Christmas.

If you are looking for a live tree, you can pick one up at Eastern Market. They were unloading a huge truck filled with trees earlier this week.

Don’t forget to hit up the surrounding shops in Eastern Market.
