Two restaurants in Detroit get a top nod from OpenTable’s top 100 hot spots in America.
One of the top 100 is Republic Tavern, on the west side of downtown in the beautifully restored Grand Army of the Republic building. It focuses on local, seasonal ingredients and is “nose to tail.” All of the things one normally would expect to be on a list like this.
The other top-ranked by diners? It’s a chain, Texas De Brazil’s location in the world headquarters building of Quicken Loans that “combines the cuisines of Texas and Brazil” into a steakhouse (“Churrascaria” on their website).
Both are on the higher side of the price scale, with Republic’s main courses running $12-$38 and a prix fixe (all in for the food, one price, chef’s choice) menu for $50 per person.
Texas De Brazil is $44.99 per person for dinner, and they come around to serve meat off of swords. That does tend to make an impression.
The Top 100 Hot Spot Restaurants in America list for 2017 highlights restaurants with not only delicious food and drinks, but vibrant bar scenes, live music and festive atmospheres. The list of honorees is based on an analysis of 10,000,000+ reviews of more than 24,000 restaurants across the country — all submitted by verified diners.
Only 25 states ended up with a listing in this top 100 list, so Michigan grabbing two spots is notable.
Republic Tavern is located at 1942 Grand River Avenue in Detroit.
Texas De Brazil is located at 1000 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
