A Detroit House Is Haunted In The New Gorillaz “Saturnz Barz” Music Video

You are here: Home / City Of Detroit / A Detroit House Is Haunted In The New Gorillaz “Saturnz Barz” Music Video

Mar 29, 2017 by Daily Detroit Staff

When it comes to haunted houses, the virtual music group Gorillaz chose a Midtown Detroit house as the basis for a haunted house for their new animated music video, Saturnz Barz.

Gorillaz is known for their impactful visual style that blends reality and animation. The “band” itself is the creation of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett from the United Kingdom and started in 1998.

The track Saturnz Barz features another artist, Popcaan. It’s a crazy animated tale of a haunted house. We’ve embedded it below:

Also, there’s a neat 360 degree version to watch on Youtube if you have the gear. Depending on your browser (Google Chrome works), you’ll be able to drag around the environment in the house.

The house itself is on Hendrie Street, right behind a small Wayne County road yard. Property records show it was built in 1905. She’s a beauty, as you can see from the picture today:

The house it appears the haunted house in the music video was based on.

The rest of the neighborhood is in decent shape. It’s just a couple blocks north from the Detroit Institute of Arts and the historic Ferry blocks, where the Inn on Ferry Street is. There’s only one house that’s not occupied on the immediate couple of blocks, and it’s being fixed up as of this writing.

According to Genius, the correlation was first spotted by someone on Twitter by the handle of saturnzbarz.

It’s not clear why Gorillaz chose Detroit. Daily Detroit reached out for comment. But, hey, that’s one cool looking animated haunted house based on one cool looking real house in the D.
