For a minute there, the story of buying a $500 house in Detroit was everywhere. And the guy who wrote that essay on Buzzfeed, Drew Philp?

Well, he has a new book out. It’s called A $500 House in Detroit: Rebuilding an Abandoned Home and an American City.

Pull up a chair and hit play for their fascinating, in-depth conversation that reflects on his last 10 years of the city, his journey and where we’re headed next.

How is the house doing? How is his neighborhood changing (and it is)? What’s around the corner? How can Detroit be different than the rest of the nation when it comes to redevelopment?

Philp has some very interesting insights and opinions, and it was a pleasure to join him at Queens Bar.

Of course, if you enjoyed this conversation, we have eight others from previous episodes of the Daily Detroit Happy Hour.

You can find our RSS feed here.

Our Stitcher Radio feed here.

And of course we’re on iTunes here. All free.

Also thanks to Queens for their hospitality as well as our network, Podcast Detroit, for their support.

If you’d like to buy Drew’s book, you can do so wherever fine books are sold or on Amazon here.
