We’re on the other side of Memorial Day weekend, and so along with the weather the fun heats up.

The Redford Theater will be hosting the Silent Film Weekend Festival this Friday and Saturday. There will be three films showcased over the two days. Ben Model will be providing the musical accompaniment on the Barton Organ.

Family-Friendly Friday Night Film Series in New Center Park

Yes, it’s another movie event. But this is a great one for those with little ones. The movie is free, so bring your blankets and popcorn to watch Zootopia.

The Detroit Pistons Foundation is sponsoring this Friday Night Film Series at the New Center Park.

The doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the movie starts at dark.

New Center Park is located at 2998 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.

Wizbang! Circus

Punch and Squeal will be coming back to down this Friday and Saturday for the Wizbang! Circus. The show will have performers from around Detroit, Chicago and Ukraine.

Circus might be in the name of this variety show, however this show would be best for those 18 and over.

There two shows a night at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person if you buy them in advance. Tickets go up to $20 if you buy them at the door.

Freedom House Community Appreciation

Earlier in the year the Freedom House had some financial trouble, and the community rallied around the organization.

Freedom House will be hosting a community appreciation party on Saturday from 1:30-3:30.

There will be music from the MSU Jazz Improv for entertainment. Food will be provided  from Avalon International Bakery and Sister Pie.

They will also be having guided tours of Freedom House.

The organization will be collecting donations for Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center.

Freedom House is located at 2630 West Lafayette Boulevard in Detroit.

Final Sunday Brunch of the Season at Two Way Inn

If you have ever been to the Two Way Inn then you know they have a pretty killer brunch. I wanted to make sure you all knew that this Sunday will be the last Sunday brunch until October.

The Two Way Inn is a special place in that it is the oldest drinking establishment in the city. We are pretty big fans of this bar, so if you have been looking for a reason to go this is your chance.

Brunch runs from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The Two Way Inn is located at 17897 Mt Elliott Street in Hamtramck

-Fancy Pants Bonus!-

The Rent Party

We’re calling this one the fancy pants bonus because the tickets are pretty pricey at $100 per person. But it’s for a good cause.

During the 1920’s families would throw parties to try and raise money so they wouldn’t be evicted. The South Oakland Shelter has taken this idea and made their own party to raise money for the organization.

The party will be held at the former Stanley Kresge estate in Arden Park-East Boston Edison Historic District. During the party you will be able to tour the historic home.

The party will have three stages of jazz with performances by Mike Jellick Quartet, Ralphe Armstrong and I.D. Quartet, RJ Spängler’s Planet D Nonet with special guest Thornetta Davis.

Drinks will be flowing from Two James Spirits, Motor City Brewing Works, and Motor City Wine.

The food will be provided by Selden Standard, Wright & Co. and Supino Pizzeria.

The Rent Party will be held at 74 Arden Park Boulevard in Detroit.
