Your City 5: Things To Do In Detroit For The Weekend Of June 23-25

You are here: Home / City Of Detroit / Your City 5: Things To Do In Detroit For The Weekend Of June 23-25

Jun 21, 2017 by Shianne Nocerini

Hooray! The weekend is almost here, and we have you covered for what promises to be a weekend of fun in the D.

Let’s dive right in.

Jesus Christ Superstar

Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice have been responsible for some of the most popular musicals of all times, and Jesus Christ Superstar is one of them.

This weekend the Detroit Actor’s Theatre Company will be putting on four free performances of Jesus Christ Superstar in New Center Park.

Because this is show is in a park it is suggested you bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on.

The performances start on Thursday, June 22 and run through Sunday, June 25.

Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the show starts at 9:00 p.m.

New Center Park is located at 2998 West Grand Boulevard Detroit, MI 48202

Detroit River Days

What isn’t there to love about this three day festival along the Detroit Riverfront?

There will be three days of live musical performances. The headliners for the Quicken Loans Main Stage will be Ann Wilson from Heart, The Isley Brothers featuring Ron Isley, and Joe.

The festival will have a carnival, giant slide, airshows by the Tuskegee Airman, free kids zone and so much more. I highly suggest checking out the River Days website because there is a ton of information there.

Admission: Friday is free until 5:00 p.m. after that it will be $5 per person. The remaining days are $3 until 3:00 p.m., the price goes up to $5 then.

Detroit River Days starts this Friday, June 23 and runs through Sunday, June 25. As you might expect, it’s on the riverfront, specifically just east of the GM Ren Cen.

Hours: Friday – 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Saturday – 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Sunday – 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.

Beau Bien Fine Foods Grand Opening

If you plan on going to Eastern Market this Saturday you need to take a little walk over to the new Beau Bien Fine Foods tasting room and sandwicherie.

I have been a huge fan of Beau Bien Fine Food for years. I have been waiting patiently for their store to open since I heard they were working on a brick and mortar store.

They have had a soft opening earlier this month, but the official Grand Opening is this Saturday.

I can’t wait to try some of the sandwiches they have created.

Hours: 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Address: 2478 Riopelle Street Detroit, Michigan 48207

Palmer Park Concert in the Cabin and Log Cabin Day

This weekend is one of your only chance to check out the inside of the Log Cabin in Palmer Park.

The Concert in the Cabin is a fundraiser for the People for Palmer Park and it will be held on Saturday. We did a whole post about the history of the log cabin and the concert, so you can find out details there.

Head out to Palmer Park on Sunday for Log Cabin Day, this year you will be able to tour both floors of the Palmer Log Cabin.

This family friendly event will have quilts on display, square dancing, spinning and blacksmith demos, a Civil War camp with the 102nd USCT Black History group. The first 500 people can also get free ice cream from Guernsey Farms Dairy.

Kids will be able to have their face painted and can make bonnets. There will be a parade and contest for children.

Log Cabin Day will be from 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m.

Burger Battle Detroit 2017

Who doesn’t like a good burger? This Sunday, June 25 is the 4th annual Burger Battle at Shed 5 in Eastern Market.

Over 20 restaurants vying for the top spot of best burger in Detroit.

There will be a full bar, corn hole tournament, and all you can eat burger samples.

Tickets for the Burger Battle are $20 per person.

The Burger Battle will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
