This week has both flown by and gone incredibly slow for me. I am looking forward to this weekend.

This weekend will be the perfect weather for some partying. Go out and have a good time.

Block Build 2017 in Jefferson-Chalmers

Looking to get out and do some good in the neighborhoods this weekend? Jefferson East Inc. is having a block build in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood.

There is plenty for volunteers to do during the event, from planting flowers in planter boxes, adding mulch to the tree beds, putting new boards up on the Vanity Ballroom, painting, and much more. Be sure to register before the event to let them know you’re coming. Once you register they will send you more information.

The block build will take place on Saturday, September 23 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Corktoberfest 2017

Sure Corktown is mostly known for it’s Irish heritage, but that doesn’t mean they can’t celebrate Octoberfest with the best of them.

This is the 1st year for Corktoberfest and it looks like a great time.

There will be over 80 different types of beers from large batch brands to the small craft beer breweries.

There will be food, music, and activities to keep you entertained.

Tickets for Corktoberfest are $35 for general admission or $50 for VIP. This event is 21 and over.

Corktoberfest will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Murals in the Market

This week long event officially started today and will run through Thursday, September 28.

This weekend is the perfect time to walk through Eastern Market to check out all of the new public artwork. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite artist, but I’m partial to Ouizi.

You can find out more information about the artists and all of the events at the Murals in the Market website.

I’ve waited for so long for this light festival to come back to Detroit, and I have to go out of town this weekend.

So I think you need to go to it in my place. We did a whole post about the 10 reasons to go to DLECTRICITY this weekend.

Don’t forget to stop by MOCAD to be reminded that Everything Is Going To Be Ok.

Motor City Comedy Festival

If you are a fan of comedy, then I suggest you check out this three day comedy festival.

This is the first year for the Motor City Comedy Festival, but they have gotten a nice line up of comedians.

You can find the line up and venues for the festival on the Motor City Comedy Festival website.

You can buy a 3 day pass for $75 or pay $35 for a single day ticket.

Triple Bonus

Torch With A Twist

There is something special about a vaudeville show. Maybe it’s because they aren’t done very often anymore.

But this Saturday night the Tangent Gallery/Hastings Street Ballroom will be filled with an evening of vaudeville with the 11th annual Torch With A Twist. Get ready for a long line up of performances by Detroits best talent like my friend Lushes Lamoan.

Tickets are $10. You can buy them at the door or get them in advance.  This show is for the adults…so leave anyone under 21 at home.

Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the show starts at 9:00 p.m.

The Tangent Gallery and Hastings Street Ballroom is located at 715 E Milwaukee Street Detroit, Michigan 48202

The Belt Benefit for Puerto Rico

If you happen to be by The Belt this Friday or Saturday night you should head over to this benefit for Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Territory was blasted this week by Hurricane Maria. All of the people there could really use our help. Find out more information over on our quick tip about the event.

Sweat The Details At The Whiskey Disco

My editor loves house and electronic beats, so I’m sure you’ll find him at least for a bit here on Friday night. The Whiskey Disco is downstairs of Cornerstone Barrelhouse downtown — and Michael and Roque put on a great show. 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. Friday into Saturday morning.

2 John R., in Detroit. Look downstairs.
