Recently, the suburban bus system (The Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation or SMART) unveiled a new set of three routes up Woodward, Gratiot, and Michigan avenues with stops every mile or so, Wi-Fi and service lead times as little as every 15 minutes and service 24 hours.
The routes would run from downtown Detroit to Metro Airport via Michigan, to 23 Mile in Chesterfield Township down Gratiot, and up Woodward to Pontiac via Troy.
The new lines will replace, at least in part, and expand upon the current REFLEX limited bus service that was being ran by the Regional Transit Authority, but the RTA has limited funds without a millage to support it. A transit millage for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties was voted down last year.
As more details firm up in the process of figuring out exactly what this service will look like, SMART released a proposed map of downtown Detroit stops ahead a series of public hearings. We’ve embedded it below.
