Jun 21, 2018 by Jer Staes

A tradition comes back to Detroit’s skies on Monday night. The Ford Fireworks are back for a 60th year.

Jeremiah chatted with Tony Michaels, the Parade Company’s CEO about this years show and what people can expect.

This year’s theme is “Come Alive in the D.”

“Detroit is doing so well on this great comeback trail. So many people are doing so many great things, that we thought it would be fitting to say come alive in the D,” said Michaels. “The show plan for the Ford Fireworks is one of the best that we’ve ever done. It’s going to be really exciting. It’s truly one of the finest in the Nation.”

The Parade Company worked with Zambelli Fireworks to produce the show for this year.

Here is some important information about the Fireworks.

The show kicks off at 9:55 p.m. If you are planning on going down to watch the show in person, you’ll need to get there early. It gets packed.

Hart Plaza opens at 2:00 p.m. You’ll want to get there early to get a good spot.

Belle Isle will open at 2:00 p.m. Only 3,000 cars will be able to drive onto the island for the fireworks. Once it reaches capacity you will still be able to walk across the bridge to get on the island.

Mt. Elliott Park, Owens Park and Erma Henderson Park are also good spots to watch the fireworks.

For those of you who like to watch the fireworks from the comfort of your own home, you will be able to watch it on WDIV-Local 4. Live coverage will begin at 8:00 p.m.

You can find more information at the Parade Company’s website.
