Local Organizations To Receive $20 Million In Grants

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced $20 million in grants this week that will be awarded to a variety of local organizations.

Some of the highlights include:

$225,000 to expand the partnership of the University Musical Society and Michigan Opera Theater to offer dance performances to Detroit.

$70,000 to Gleaners Community Food Bank for a Diabetes Prevention Program in Detroit, Pontiac and Inkster.

$75,000 to fund a partnership between Detroit Public Schools and Transforming Research into Practice to Improve the Lives of Students (TRAILS) through the Regents of the University of Michigan.

$70,000 grant to Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice to provide employee rights workshops in Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Monroe counties.

$60,000 to Grandmont/Rosedale Development Corporation in the city of Detroit for creative place-making projects in their neighborhood.

And nearly half a million dollars will go to children and youth initiatives.
