Your City 5 Things To Do This Weekend In Detroit: October 19-21

You are here: Home / City 5 / Your City 5 Things To Do This Weekend In Detroit: October 19-21

Oct 18, 2018 by Shianne Nocerini

Let’s look ahead to this weekend in Detroit. There are a ton of fun things happening around Detroit. I have a feeling I might be at the Senate Theater on Saturday night. So if you see me, be sure to say hello.

Scary Classic Movies

Can I tell you a secret about myself? I really don’t like very many horror movies. I don’t really like gore for the sake of gore, so movies like Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween are out.

The movies that really scare me are the ones that deal with possession, the Devil, or the occult. Give me The Omen or The Exorcist any day.

That’s why this weekend is so awesome. The Senate and Redford Theatres are both showing some of my favorite horror movies just in time for Halloween.

The Senate Theater will be showing The Exorcist on Friday night and The Shining on Saturday night. Both shows start at 8 p.m.

The Redford Theatre will be showing Rosemary’s Baby on Friday evening. The show starts at 8 p.m.

The best part is that tickets for both movie theaters are only $5 a person. What a bargain!

The Senate Theater is located at 6424 Michigan Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48210

The Redford Theatre is located at 17360 Lahser Road Detroit, Michigan 48219

Detroit Touch A Truck on the Detroit Riverfront

Looking to get those kids outdoors for a bit this weekend but aren’t really sure where to go?

The Detroit Riverfront will be holding another Detroit Touch A Truck event in West Riverfront Park.

The event will have over 25 different large trucks that kids of all ages can climb on and explore. What kid doesn’t like trucks?

There will also be arts and crafts for the kids to do.

The event is free, but you do need to register online.

Saturday, October 20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

West Riverfront Park is located at 1801 West Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48216

Big Game: MSU vs. U of M Tailgate Party at Beacon Park

It’s rivalry weekend in collage football land. Michigan State is playing Michigan at the Big House on Saturday.

Even if you don’t have tickets to game this Saturday you can still go out and have a good time at Beacon Park.

The DTE Beacon Park Foundation and Downtown Detroit Partnership is putting on a family friendly tailgate party.

The game will be shown on the big screen inside a heated tent. There will be a DJ, corn hole tournament, lawn fowling, ticket giveaways, and prizes.

The event is free to attend. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Saturday, October 20 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Game kick off is at 12 p.m.

Beacon Park is located at 1901 Grand River Detroit, MI 48226

P.S. For what it’s worth, I’m much more invested in the Central vs. Western game this weekend. Go Chips!

In Dreams: Roy Orbison Hologram Tour

If you didn’t get a chance to see Roy Orbison before he died in 1988, now is your chance…sort of.

To be honest, this whole hologram thing sounds bananas. But I’m still intrigued, mainly because I do love Roy Orbison.

Roy Orbison’s hologram will be joined by a live orchestra and will play his iconic music.

So, if you’re looking for something different to do on Saturday night I’m going to put my stamp on this.

Surprisingly tickets are pretty reasonable, even for an event at the Fox.

Saturday, October 20 at 8 p.m.

The Fox Theatre is located at 2211 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48201

Detroit Vintage Market Bazaar

I love a good vintage market, and this Sunday the Detroit Vintage Market Bazaar will be in Shed 5 at Eastern Market. There will be a bunch of different vendors with all of their treasures for sale.

You never really know what you’re going to find at a market like this. Maybe you’ll find that perfect piece of antique glass that will fit into your collection. Or maybe you’re looking for a beautiful piece of midcentury modern furniture.

The event is free to attend, but I’d still bring plenty of cash for the vendors.

Sunday, October 21 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Eastern Market is located at 2934 Russell Street Detroit, Michigan 48207

Bonus

One More College Football Tailgating Opportunity

Second Best is throwing a little tailgating party for the MSU vs. U of M game as well.

So, if you’re looking for one more place to watch the game head over there.

In addition to the bar being open they will also have tents and extra televisions in the parking lot outside.

There will be plenty of food and drinks.

Saturday, October 20 starting at 11 a.m.

Second Best is located at 42 Watson Street Detroit, Michigan 48201
