Play episode

Hello, hello, hello!

Can you believe that this is the last week of March? I know I can’t. It’s going to be Easter before we know it.

There is plenty to keep you entertained this weekend. I know I’m pretty jazzed about Stacey Hotwaxx Hale at Motor City Wine.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Havana Nights with LL7 Latin Jazz Orqestra at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge

It’s been awhile since I’ve highlighted Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. It’s one of those places that always has killer jazz throughout the week, so I forget that not everyone knows how amazing this place is.

On Friday night the LL7 Latin Jazz Orqestra will be performing, and it sound like a great time.

Don’t forget to bring your appetite, because they have some pretty tasty soul food.

There is a $15 cover to get in. I also suggest making a reservation if you plan on going here’s the number 313-345-6300.

Friday, March 29 band starts playing at 8:30 p.m.

Baker’s Keyboard Lounge is located at 20510 Livernois Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48221

Celebrate the Rebirth of Historic Hamtramck Stadium

Earlier this month we told you all about the Patronicity campaign to help raise money to restore the Hamtramck Stadium where various Negro League baseball teams use to play at.

So far they have surpassed their goal of $50,000, which is great news! You can still donate since  there are still six more days for the campaign.

To celebrate there will be a big ol’ party at the Baker Streetcar Bar in Hamtramck. (No I didn’t plan to have two places named Baker this week…but here we are.)

There will be cold drinks, hot spaghetti, and music. Plus plenty of talk about all of the sports they plan on bringing back to the field.

The event is free, but they are asking for donations…so bring that cashola.

Saturday, March 30 from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m.

Baker Streetcar Bar is located at 9817 Joseph Campau Street  Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

John Jammin Collins and Stacey Hotwaxx Hale at Motor City Wine

Motor City Wine is going to be hopping this Saturday night because John Jammin’ Collins and Stacey Hotwaxx Hale will be spinning all night. They will also be joined by Tommie Cool.

If y’all don’t know who Stacey Hotwaxx Hale is music royalty around here and is known as the Grandmother of House Music. So if you don’t know, now you know.

Saturday, March 30 from 9:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.

Motor City Wine is located at 608 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226

Pheasant Walk

Now that it’s Spring we can get out of the house and stretch our legs. Why not do it while looking at Detroit’s favorite bird…the pheasant.

The Detroit Audubon will be hosting a pheasant walk early on Saturday morning.

While on the walk, you’ll learn about the history about how the pheasant came to call this city home.

It’s a beginner walk, and also family friendly.  It should go without saying —but wear sensible shoes.

There’s no fee to join the walk, but you do need to register.

Sunday, March 31 at 8:00 a.m. (plan to get there early to find parking and the group.)

3500 Grandy Street Detroit, MI 48207 meet at the corner of Scott Street and Grandy Street

All Things Detroit and Food Truck Rally

It’s time to shop til you drop this Sunday…because All Things Detroit is back again at Eastern Market.

One of the reasons I am a huge fan of this event, is that it gives shoppers a chance to get to know some great small businesses from around metro Detroit. There are so many vendors that it takes up Sheds 3,4 and 5 now.

So, let’s talk about some of the vendors. It’s hard to narrow down some of my favorite small businesses, but I’m going to try.

Natural Red has a great line of all natural personal care items. I’m a big fan of her Mint to be Sweet sugar scrub.

Paisley Paper Company has some great greeting cards plus, not to mention her Unplanned Planner is boss.

And finally The Smile Brand. it is owned by artist Phillip Simpson has some great shirts and accessories.

Tickets for the first All Things Detroit are $5 for general admission or $15 for Beat the Crowd tickets. You can buy your tickets to All Things Detroit here.

Sunday, March 31 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m. for those with Beat the Crowd tickets.)

Eastern Market is located at 2934 Russell Street  Detroit, Michigan 48207
