Kuzzo's Chicken and Waffles

In 2015 when Kuzzo’s Chicken and Waffles opened up on Livernois between 7 and 8 Mile, it was the talk of the town.

Now, it’s apparently time for a refresh.

According to an Instagram post late Monday night, Kuzzo’s has temporarily closed immediately for renovations until November of this year.

A hiatus of this long can be a bit risky in the restaurant business and could mean a major renovation. But the timing might be smart as it coincides with a major overhaul of the Livernois streetscape that’s currently underway.

Although more details weren’t given, it might be to address some issues that have come up in online reviews, especially for slow service.

As someone who has dined there recently I can say those reviews were my experience as well.

That makes sense as another report talked about a lesson learned was that the kitchen was too small.

A second location for Kuzzo’s was announced last year for Woodward at a yet to be built building in 2020.

But there’s a catch. Work was supposed to start in the Fall of 2018 and that site on Mack and Stimson across from the Bonstelle Theater has been quiet all this year.

There’s no new signage indicating the Midtown project is going forward — and if there’s no building there’s no restaurant — so I’ll believe it when I see it.
