# Annual Greek Indpendence Parade Hits Monroe Street This Sunday, March 26

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Do you enjoy going to Greektown? If you answered yes to both of those questions I have just the event for you.

The 16th annual Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade is on Sunday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m.

The parade is observing the start of the War of Greek Independence which was on March 25, 1821.

The parade route starts at 1 Campus Martius (a.k.a. the former Compuware Headquarters) and goes down Monroe through Greektown.

This year’s Grand Marshall is Theodore (Ted) Zampetis. Zampetis immigrated from Greece in his twenties, and eventually became the president of Cooper Standard Automotive and Shiloh Industries. He has since retired but he is involved with his family foundation.

Parade goers will see Greek dancers and musicians, floats, Michigan State University’s “Sparty,” and the Parade Company’s Big Head Corp.

After the parade there will be a closing ceremony with dancing in the streets, and of course, there are plenty of restaurants on Monroe in Greektown.
