# Avalon Village Project In Highland Park Reaches Funding Goal

Last week[ we brought you the story of Shu](https://www.dailydetroit.com/2016/06/17/yes-shu-can/) – a woman who is looking to build a village in Highland Park.

Well, it looks like she’s going to get her chance. The Kickstarter campaign ended fully funded on Thursday, with $1,791 extra being raised from 1,511 backers from across the country.

From her [thank you update on her Kickstarter page](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/440111044/avalon-village-from-blight-to-beauty/posts/1612401?ref=dailydetroit.com):

> This dream of building a safe space for our children and neighbors was born out of the tragedy of my son’s death nine years ago, when I had to decide whether to fall into despair or to rise up to honor Jakobi Ra’s memory by creating peace and love. Today, you all confirmed for me that I made the right decision. Thank you so very much.
