Valentine’s Day weekend is here and many Detroiters will be [finding a way to impress their loved ones](https://www.dailydetroit.com/2015/02/05/10-valentines-day-gifts-for-detroit-lovers/ "10 Valentine’s Day Gifts for Detroit Lovers"), and many others will be just out there trying to have a good time and keep sane while temperatures continue to plummet. It’s not like we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel weather-wise, but also not like we aren’t used to it at this point. Here’s a smattering of events for your City 5 this week that should have a little something to keep everybody happy. Kisses.

**Friday** – [ Academy Award Winning Films at the DIA’s Detroit Film Theatre](http://www.dia.org/auxiliaries/event.aspx?id=4824&iid=5770&aux%5Fid=14&cid=100&ref=dailydetroit.com) – If you are into film, or even if you’re not and you are looking for a cozy indoor night with a date or otherwise, check out the DIA’s Detroit Film Theatre for a screening of an eclectic mix of films. You may learn something, you may feel something, but you won’t be bored, these short films tell big stories and you’ll get to see a few of them. Tickets are $8.50 with discounts available.

**Friday** – [“Date Night” at Go! Comedy](https://www.facebook.com/events/1781222605435227/) – We’ve pumped events from these guys before and that is because we know that they bring hard laughter and good times. There’s also some pretty good drinks at the bar with an attentive and friendly waitstaff. We’re betting this show will be equally as funny whether you are with a date or hanging with a gaggle of the guys or gals. Tickets are $18.00.

**Saturday** – [Winter Antics at the Park](http://us5.campaign-archive2.com/?u=c98f3268ae10c4c564934d6d6&id=e86401f74f&e=72a2d150dd&ref=dailydetroit.com) – Some of us just haven’t had enough winter yet and say bring it on! For those of you who enjoy winter and don’t mind some more cold weather fun, check out this event. You’ll be able to watch brave Michiganders take the polar plunge into the icy Detroit River to support the Special Olympics, snowshoe around the riverfront park, warm up with s’mores and a bonfire, and go sledding right in Detroit. This is a free event.

**Saturday** – [Countdown to Packzi Day Celebration](http://www.polartcenter.com/articles.asp?id=319&ref=dailydetroit.com) – If you are beyond Valentine’s Day you may want to ante up for the Countdown to Paczki Day. This event includes a 5k run in Hamtramck to burn some calories a few days before downing those delectable donuts that only arrive once a year. It also includes a warm-up with music from the Misty Blues, a ride on the Packzi Express which takes you to all the local Packzi bakeries, and yep … a free early Packzi to give you taste before the big day. This is a free event.

**Saturday, Sunday and next week** – [The Detroit Boat Show ](https://www.dailydetroit.com/2015/02/07/love-water-comes-boat-show-feb-16-19/ "Love The Water? Here Comes The Boat Show Feb. 16-19")– No time of the year makes one yearn for a cruise on the pontoon, or the bay liner, or the cigarette boat more than this time. The icy waters are just waiting to warm up for another season of watery recreational bliss and warm rays of sunshine. Get involved! $12.oo per adult and children under 12 are free.

**Bonus Tip** – We stopped by the Firebird Tavern this week to check out a new concoction, the “Old Fashion Passion.” That tequila-based drink was definitely good, but even more so we stumbled into a bunch of history for a building that’s from the 1880’s and some good times. That said, on Valentine’s Day this **Saturday night** they’re having a big ‘ol party, no reservations required.
