# DWSD Issues Boil Water Advisory For Large Section Of Southwestern Detroit

**UPDATE: As of this morning (Saturday), the advisory has been lifted.**

Until further notice, according to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, there’s a boil water advisory in a large section of the city thanks to a large, 42-inch water transmission main break this morning, and some people have reported low water pressure in the area.

The testing of the water samples will be completed by Saturday, so this advisory has the potential to go on for days.

Per DWSD and the Great Lakes Water Authority, if you are in the area between West Jefferson to the south, Vernor Highway to the north, Miller Road to the west, and Livernois to the east you are advised to boil their drinking water until further notice. The map above is provided by Detroit Water and Sewerage.

People in the defined area should:

- Bring water to a rolling boil for one minute;
- Allow the water to cool before using; and
- Store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover.

Customers in the defined area should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:

- Drinking;
- Brushing teeth;
- Washing fruits and vegetables;
- Preparing food and baby formula;
- Making ice; and
- Giving to pets.

GLWA and DWSD crews are in the process of repairing the broken 42-inch water transmission main. If residents or businesses have no water service in the area defined in this advisory, they ask to please call the DWSD emergency line at [313-267-7401](tel:313-267-7401).
