# Palmer Woods Concert Series Celebrates Black History Month

February is Black History Month and the Palmer Woods area is celebrating with the 9th season of their Music in Homes concert series.

Through month of June the Palmer Woods area will host the 9th season of their Music in Homes series, which showcases world-acclamed jazz, classical and world music artists with Detroit roots, performing in the spectacular homes of Palmer Woods.

The series celebrates Black History Month with a kick off performance on February 20th. The concert will honor preeminent 20th century Black Jazz composers, musicians and trailblazers like Duke Ellington, Cedar Walton, John Coltrane, Theolonious Monk and more. The legendary work of this long list of artists will be interpreted and performed by 21st century jazz masters Sean Dobbins on drums, Kurt Krahnke on bass, Tad Weed on piano, and A. Spencer Barefield on guitar.

In addition to the sure to be excellent performance, guests will enjoy a southern-style feat during intermission, which last year, included chicken, greens, mac n’cheese, peach cobbler and more.

The venue is an gorgeous 1924 Tudor-influenced French style manor designed by the famed architect Richard Marr, and was at one time home to one of the Fisher brothers.
