# REPORT: Emagine Considering Downtown Detroit Movie Megaplex

The greater downtown Detroit area might be getting a movie theatre megaplex soon.

**[That’s what Crain’s Detroit Business is reporting](http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20170623/NEWS/170629942/emagine-aims-to-bring-megaplex-theater-to-downtown-detroit?utm%5Fcampaign=socialflow&utm%5Fsource=facebook&utm%5Fmedium=social)**, based on a conversation with Emagine Chairman Paul Glantz.

“If you look at all the housing units that are being developed downtown and in Midtown, I think you’re going to see an enormous amount of housing come online in next couple years,” Glantz **[told Crain’s.](http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20170623/NEWS/170629942/emagine-aims-to-bring-megaplex-theater-to-downtown-detroit?utm%5Fcampaign=socialflow&utm%5Fsource=facebook&utm%5Fmedium=social)**

The investment would be in the neighborhood of $15 million, and closer to residential.

Downtown Detroit until 2015 had a four screen movie theatre in the Renaissance Center. At the time, **[a spokeswoman said the theatre was too small and too old to be updated](http://www.freep.com/story/money/business/michigan/2015/06/30/ren-cen-theatre-closing/29511439/?ref=dailydetroit.com)** after a nearly 40 year run.

The city of Detroit currently has one first-run movie theatre, and that’s the Bel-Air on 8 Mile.
