Michigan’s natural beauty is something to behold – something you can’t stop watching. This 4x-speed video by Youtube user [Nick Nerbonne](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfb-WWaObu9rIUDYvWn8rfg?ref=dailydetroit.com) is less than two minutes long, but well worth it.

For background, this is a roll cloud. A roll cloud is a low, horizontal, tube-shaped, and relatively rare type of arcus cloud. Roll clouds usually appear to be “rolling” about a horizontal axis, and are rare.

The unique motion is because of the winds changing speed and/or direction at the inversion. That’s when the air temperature reverses from its usual state, resulting in warm air on top of cool air, along which the weather disturbance is traveling, [according to National Geographic](http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/11/131115-rare-roll-cloud-video-rare-morning-glory/?ref=dailydetroit.com). It requires a “perfect storm” of conditions, if you will.
