In 2010 American Express founded Small Business Saturday to encourage more people to shop at small businesses around the country on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The day has turned into a movement of sorts, and it’s something that resonates in Detroit’s small business community.

This video helps illustrate why small businesses are so important to the revitalization of Detroit, and explains the impact when people decide to “shop small.”  Hopefully, the video will inspire to come out and buy gifts for people you care about in the city.  It will be an adventure, and you even get a passport that gets stamped at local business when you shop there.  It’s a fun way to contribute to the local economy and get cool gifts that you won’t easily find at your typical corporate big box stores. We encourage you to always buy local, buy small when you can, and get out to these locations and physically shop. Help create the retail experience that we would all like to see in Detroit!

Look for our “Small Business Saturday Guide” in the upcoming week.
