Mercury Promotions & Fulfillment and Detroit-based Walker-Miller Energy Services were highlighted in Google’s Annual Economic Impact Report. They were featured as case study examples of Michigan businesses using ecommerce to achieve better results with limited resources.

Google’s report chooses 51 companies across the United States to show how Google’s ecommerce products have increased the economic stamp on businesses.

“By connecting customers with businesses at the moment they’re searching for a good or service, our search and advertising programs help millions of businesses find customers, aid publishers in earning money from their online content, and support non-profits aiming to increase donations and volunteers,” said Margo Georgiadis, Google’s President of Americas Sales said in Google’s Annual Economic Impact Report. “We’re proud to have a positive impact on so many businesses and we’re inspired by the incredible work they do across the country.”

Ecommerce is creating new opportunities for both web-based and brick-and-mortar establishments across the U.S.

In 2015, according to the company, Google helped provide $2.63 billion of economic activity for more than 32,000 Michigan businesses, website publishers, and nonprofits. More than 500 Michiganders are employed by Google.

Walker-Miller Energy Services (WMES) began in 2000 as an electrical equipment supplier and now flourishes as an energy efficiency services leader. WMES’s use of AdWords and Google Analytics helped them grow by 100 percent in just over a year.

“About 40 percent of our website visits have been coming through Google, and people searching for ‘energy efficiency,’” says Matthew Miller, owner’s son and company’s marketing director. “I’ve learned what it takes to make it onto the first page of Google search results, and the importance of using accurate keywords not only on your website, but also in your AdWords campaigns. You want to educate potential customers with everything you put on the Internet.”

Mercury Promotions & Fulfillment has provided a range of marketing services in Metro Detroit to enhance and extend their customers’ brands since 1996. They offer anything from branded merchandise and fulfillment services to sweepstakes and promotions. Mercury relies on numerous Google tools to stay productive and efficient, including Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Groups.

“You can’t just hand out brochures today. You have to have an online presence and it has to be robust. That’s the way people find you,” says Tina Harmon, managing partner. “We use all of the Google tools in our business. Wherever we are in the world, it’s easy for us to access our information and it’s so reliable.”

According to Harmon, working with Google has increased business by 15 percent. They’ve seen strong growth in recent years, increased office space and employment by 10 percent, and don’t show any sign of slowing down.
