Midtown Detroit will welcome a new and possibly delicious arrival this summer. Grey Ghost Detroit will open its flagship restaurant at 47 E. Watson.

The 2,500 sq. ft, 80-seat restaurant will be located in part of a space that was most recently was home to the Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe on Woodward, but the door to the establishment will be on Watson Street as the building has been divided into three ground floor spaces.

The new arrival will be close to several well known Detroit landmarks like the Fox Theater, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Ford Field, and Comerica Park. The Future Red Wings Arena, slated to open in 2017, is within walking distance to Grey Ghost Detroit’s location.

The restaurant will be one of three commercial tenants on the first floor of the Crystal Loft Building. American Community Developers Inc. owns the building, and they’re looking forward to the restaurant’s opening.

Grey Ghost is a great fit for the building and the neighborhood,” said Mike Essian, vice president of American Community Developers, Inc. “I’ve been impressed with these guys from day one and can’t wait to for them to open.”

Team Grey Ghost

Grey Ghost is the result of a four-way partnership, including twin brothers John and David Vermiglio, Will Lee, and Josef Giacomino. Chefs Josef and John will focus on perfecting the restaurant’s menu while Will plans the cocktail program.

“This project has been an aspiration of ours for several years,” says partner David Vermiglio. “In 2013, we began exploring a number of properties throughout the city. After extensive research, we realized that Midtown, and this location in particular was the perfect fit for our first venture, with an ideal balance of existing roots, community, and exciting potential.”

Team Grey Ghost has hosted pop-up dinners since announcing their project last fall. The fifth event in the Ghost Tour will be held on Friday, April 15 at Great Lakes Culinary Center (24101 W. Nine Mile Rd., Southfield). Ghost Tour will include a five course meal dedicated to seafood. The events have regularly sold out, so make plans to get to the fifth event early.
