I’m personally not a fan of shopping on Black Friday. Sure there are some O.K. sales, but I don’t really like crowds.
That is why I love shopping on Small Business Saturday. There are also more benefits to shopping small, like keeping your money in the community.
While this list is focused on stores and boutiques don’t forget all of the restaurants and other service driven small businesses that are also participating in Small Business Saturday.
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #shopsmall this Saturday.
1. Rust Belt Market — Ferndale
The Rust Belt Market has been a great incubator for small businesses since it opened six years ago.
The Ferndale Small Business Saturday Welcome Center will be located inside the Rust Belt. So be sure to start off there. They will be passing out a Shop Small bag, a list of participating small businesses in Ferndale, and the scavenger hunt map. Ferndale will not only have free parking in all of the parking lots, but they have added free valet parking this year.
Don’t forget to poke around Rust Belt before venturing through Ferndale. Some of our favorite shops are Attack Hunger The Loaded Die, and The Vintage Wick.

2. Hood’s Hardware — Wyandotte
Hood’s Hardware is one of the welcome stations for businesses participating in Shop Small in the Dotte. Check in at Hood’s to get your Shop & Dine Magazine that features all of the participating businesses.
Don’t let the fact that Hood’s is a hardware store fool you, they also carry gift items like Motor City Creation’s Faygo Candles. Besides who wouldn’t want a drill under the tree?

3. Peninsulas — Berkley
This cute Michigan themed store is located in downtown Berkley. Have a fan of the Michigan State Parks? Peninsulas is the exclusive provider of merchandise and accessories that feature the Michigan State Parks that are located under the Bridge.

7. Detroit Comics-Ferndale

8. DCreated Boutique- Detroit
Head over to the Avenue of Fashion for some great Small Business Saturday action.
I absolutely love this store that I have written about it multiple times. All of the clothes are handcrafted and have a limited quantity of each item.

9. Detroit Fiber Works — Detroit
The welcome center for the Small Business Saturday on the Avenue of Fashion will be located in the Meditation art installation by Detroit Fiber Works in the median of Livernois. Pick up your map with all of the details of participating small businesses.
Don’t forgot to stop inside Detroit Fiber Works because they have some amazing art for sale.

10. New Order Coffee — Detroit

There is something special about independent book stores, and Pages is one of my favorites. You should totally pick up “The Witch of Delray: Rose Veres and Detroit’s Infamous 1930s Murder Mystery” by Karen Dybis.

35. City Style — Berkley
City Style has been one of my favorite stores in Metro Detroit for years. The owner of City Style, Carrie Vestrand has a great eye for clothing, accessories and shoes.
Get to City Style early because Carrie will be serving up mimosas and donut holes to celebrate Small Business Saturday. Shoppers will be able to roll the dice to get anywhere from a 10% up to 50% off full priced items.

If you find yourself in downtown Rochester then I suggest you pop into this beautiful lifestyle boutique. You’re going to find coffee table books, jewelry, perfume, cosmetics, and so much more.
While you’re checking out Talulah Belle be sure to take a stroll through downtown Rochester because they take Small Business Saturday pretty seriously up there.

Motorless Bicycle Company’s service is second to none, and they offer a wide selection of bikes from the cruiser to, yes, something you could haul wood around in. For real.

38. Better Life Bags — Hamtramck
I’m not sure how I had never heard of Better Life Bags before this week, but now that I know about them I can’t wait to buy my first purse from them. Better Life Bags hires women from the community that might have barriers to getting hired elsewhere.
You can design your bag on the Better Life Bag’s website. But this Saturday their Hamtramck workshop will be open so you can design your bag in person.

39. Green Daffodil — Ferndale

41. Woodward Throwbacks – Hamtramck
This store is in a beautiful former car dealership in the middle of Hamtramck. They make almost all their goods out of reclaimed wood and have created a great store that’s a hybrid of gift goods and supplies.
