Two new exhibitions by FAILE will be opening this weekend at the Library Street Collective and the Public Matter Program at The Belt.
Brooklyn based artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller make up FAILE.
The exhibition is called The Size of the Fight. It will feature twelve paintings that reflect Detroit’s comeback over the past few years. The duo was inspired by the resilience of the Detroit community.
The paintings are made from wood blocks that have been painted or silk screened. The duo then assembles the blocks to create a larger piece of work, much like a patch work quilt.
The Size of the Fight will run from June 24 until August 12.
FAILE has also been chosen to be part of the Library Street Collective Public Matter Program that is located inside The Belt.
The five pieces incorporate American Folk Art elements, urban signage, textile patterns, and typography.
“They’re eye candy deluxe,” says McNeil. “We wanted to celebrate what we do in the urban environment with a nod to our studio practice.”
FAILE will donate one of the Public Matter pieces to Detroit Academy of Arts & Sciences after the Public Matter exhibition ends.
The opening reception will be on Saturday, June 24 at The Library Street Collective from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m.
The party will move to The Belt until 11:00 p.m.
