Hey Detroit! The weekend is almost here and it’s time to ditch the winter blues and step out for some brews.

The pickings were a little slim this weekend but we did our best to find the needles in this party haystack, and find a few ways for you to let loose. So without further ado, here it is, your City 5 for February 19-21, 2016.

Lady of the Market—Saturday, 6 p.m. — Detroit

On Saturday, head down to Eastern Market in Detroit for an evening of fine foods presented by Chef Kate William’s highly anticipated Lady of the House restaurant, which is set to open later this year in North Corktown.

You can grab tickets here for seatings at both 6:00pm and 9:15pm. You enjoy a menu featuring the following items:

  • Mountain Rose Potato Wedge. Carrot Caviar. Charcoal Cream.
  • Braised Leek. Smoked Brown Butter. Egg Drape.
  • Stewed Tarabais Beans. Duck Sauce. Caraway Cabbage.
  • Rabbit. Polenta Dumpling. Mustard Semifredo. Farm Green.
  • Potato Beignet. Camomile Custard. Dried Yogurt.  

Don’t feel left out if you’re a vegetarian. There will be options for y’all as well.

Detroit Cultivated, a sustainable event design and coordination company, will enhance the experience by composing the perfect dining environment and incorporating sustainable practices into each phase of the dinner series process.

TECHNOIR Ver. 2—Saturday, 11 p.m. — Detroit

On Saturday night get set to get down with the get down with TECHNOIR ver. 2 at the Grenadier Club in Detroit. Featuring the sounds of DJs Kyle Hall, MGUN and more, this dance party is sure to be raging until the wee hours of the morning. At just $6, this is a great way to tap back into the weird and mystical world of Detroit techno, and take the edge of February’s icy touch.

The Grenadier Club is on the east side at 3101 McDougall Street in Detroit.

Documenting DETROIT—Saturday, 6 p.m. — Detroit

If you’d rather embrace the often heavy introspection winter implores of you, then consider checking out Documenting Detroit at the Red Bull House of Art on Saturday.

The event marks the return of Documenting DETROIT with a February installment featuring Detroit-based photographer Carlos Diaz, and New York-based photographer Andrew Lichtenstein.

Carlos Diaz, born in Pontiac, Michigan, is currently a professor and former chairman of the Photography Department (1994-2000) at the College for Creative Studies where he has taught for 29 years.

Andrew Lichtenstein (a member of Facing Change: Documenting America) has spent the last two decades covering long-term stories of social concern in the United States. He worked eight years covering the rise of the prison industrial complex after receiving an Open Society Institute Fellowship in 2000.

The evening will take place at Red Bull House of Art, a residency program for local artists in the Detroit metropolitan area, located in Detroit’s Historic Eastern Market.

The event is free and kicks off at 6 p.m., so don’t miss out!

Candles & Bourbon—Saturday, 7:30 p.m. — Detroit

If you have a little cash to burn and love bourbon and Detroit history, then don’t miss the unique Candles & Bourbon event at the Belle Isle Boathouse this Saturday.

Expect the unexpected and prepare to be immersed in a sea of live music, entertainment and sweets with a splash of 1940’s high end class.

Dust off your best black cocktail attire or 1940’s ensemble an take part in this VIP experience.

The VIP tickets include tasting of five different liquor brands at a premiere cocktail hour (Starting at 6:00 p.m.) to mingle before the event starts with the artist, writer and founder of Save Historic Detroit Homes, and a whole lot more, so grab your favorite date and get out there for some good old bourbon induced fun.

Detroit Comedy Underground—Sunday, 7:30 p.m. — Detroit

At this point in the winter we can all use a laugh, and you’ll find all that and more at the Detroit Comedy Underground’s Sunday stand up showcase.

The Detroit Comedy Underground is a collaborative effort to bring some of the best in comedy to the downtown area. This weekly showcase will feature consistently strong line-ups performing in the intimate Elizabeth Theater above Park Bar for just $5.

So grab some friends and step out for a weekend night cap and some all star comedic talent!
