Hello again Detroit! We’re back with another weekend round up with your City 5 from Daily Detroit.

This weekend marks the end of winter’s cruelest month, and opens the door to the wonder that the month of March holds (e.g. ST. PATRICK’S DAY).

Detroit Autorama — Friday — Sunday — Detroit

DIA Screening of “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” — Friday — Detroit

On Friday night, check out the work of renowned film director, producer and actor Melvin Van Peebles appearing with the Burnt Sugar Arkestra for a live performance of the score of “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” (1971) followed by a screening of the film, introduced by Van Peebles, live at the DIA. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m., followed by a showing of a restored 35 mm print of the movie at 9:30 p.m. in the DIA’s Detroit Film Theatre auditorium.

The film captures the story of how the Van Peebles’ “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” landed on “Variety’s” top-grossing list of 1971, kick-starting the independent African-American film movement of the 1970s.

Tickets for both the concert and movie are $9.50 for the general public and $7.50 for DIA members, seniors and students.

Offworld Arcade’s Monthly Evening of Electronically Amusements — Saturday — Detroit

On Saturday, relive the glory days when arcade games ruled the world.

Offworld Arcade is a once a month event that brings over 30 classic arcade games to Checker Bar in Detroit, giving you the chance to put your dusty gaming skills to the test. In addition to the game fest you’ll enjoy live music, a classic console raffle, and food and drink until 2AM.

The event is all ages until 9PM and 21+ after that, and tickets are $8 all night long.

Library Street Collective Presents — Saturday — Detroit

On Saturday, check out a great event at the Library Street Collective, as they host the opening of a group exhibition featuring Adrian Falkner, AJ Fosik, Cleon Peterson, Faile, Hacer, Kelsey Brookes, mars 1, Pose, Revok, Ryan McGinness, Sam Friedman, Shepard Fairey and Swoon.

Library Street Collective specializes in cutting edge modern and contemporary fine art with a primary focus on artists who have developed their skills and visual art in public spaces, with the mission of sharing what they believe to be some of the most important and inspiring art today.

The show kicks off tomorrow and runs through April 15, so even if you can’t make it this weekend you might want to find some time to swing by.

Shvitz It Out at Yoga Shelter — Sunday — Detroit

If you’re already slacking on your New Year’s Resolutions then consider swinging by the Southfield Yoga Shelter this Sunday. SHVITZ IT OUT is a new program that helps connect metro detroiters to some of Metro Detroit’s coolest workouts and fitness studios!

This month’s class will be an Ashtanga Short Form Yoga. Open to all levels, this class begins with warm-up flows, then moves on to invigorating longer-holding postures. Modifications will be offered by the instructor to allow students to work at their own pace. It concludes with stretches to help create deep release in the muscles and connective tissues.
