Of course we have the Tiger’s Opening Day on Friday, however I think we’ve done a pretty good job of covering it already with our Field Guide and Do’s and Don’ts of Opening Day. If you’re heading down and haven’t read them, take a minute and do so.

Now, let’s get started on the City 5 for this weekend, shall we?

BEAMS – Detroit

The Scarab Club has a new exhibition that highlights the work of some of the artists who have signed the beams on the second floor.

On Friday, April 7 the Scarab Club will be having the opening reception for the show. The Scarab Club will be unveiling a new signature that night, artist Glen Michaels will have the honor of signing his name.

There is a whole separate post highlighting some of the artists that will be in the exhibition.

The event is free. Hours: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Scarab Club is located at 217 Farnsworth Street in Detroit.

Mary’s 150th Birthday Bash – Detroit

There’s no doubt that I love Pewabic and the work that Mary Chase Perry Stratton did while she was still alive. I’m looking at you, Guardian Building.

Pewabic has put together a great birthday bash to celebrate what would be Stratton’s 150th birthday this Saturday, April 8.

There will be birthday cake, raffle for gift cards, tours of the pottery, wheel throwing demos, and talks about Stratton and the pottery throughout the day. You can find the schedule for the day here.

The event is free, and is a great family friendly event. Hours: 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Pewabic is located at 10125 E Jefferson Avenue in Detroit.

Dancing at the Detroit Yacht Club with The Peacock Room – Detroit

If you’re looking for something swanky to do on Saturday night, I suggest that you check out this evening of dancing.

The Rhythm Society Orchestra with Joel Zmuda & the ABC Sisters will be on the stage performing all your favorite standard big band songs.

If you plan on going, the event says to dress “snappy” so be sure to pull our your cocktail attire. Have any vintage pieces? Even better! The Peacock Room will have a pop up happening at that night in case you need something.

Tickets are $30 per person if purchased in advance. You can email John Gibson to purchase them. Day of tickets are $35 at the door.

Hours: 7:00 p.m- 12:00 a.m. The Detroit Yacht Club is located at 1 Riverbank Road on Belle Isle in Detroit.

Rouge! Cabaret and Neo-Vintage Dance Party – Detroit

I realize there are two dance parties on the list this week. I’m not even sorry because this dance party has burlesque dancers.

Come out on Saturday, April 8 and listen to the musical stylings of Vourteque and Pat Osiris while watching Leena Mynx Allure and Holly Hock perform.

Rouge will be at Northern Lights Lounge, which is great because I really like that bar. There is no dress code, but sometimes it’s nice to dress sharp.

There is a $5 cover charge and this is a 21 and over event. The party gets started at 9:00 p.m. and goes until 2:00 a.m.

Northern Lights Lounge is located at 660 W Baltimore Street in Detroit.

Sarap Pop Up at Nancy Whiskey’s – Detroit

It is really hard to find good Filipino food in metro Detroit. When I lived in Las Vegas I had a lot of coworkers from the Philippines and they would bring lumpia and adobo to pot lucks all the time.

So when we got an email from the fine folks at Sarap about their up coming pop up’s I knew I needed to put this one in the City 5. Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe I shouldn’t tell you because I want all the lumpia for myself.

The pop up will be this Sunday, April 9 at Nancy Whiskey’s. You don’t have to worry about tickets or reservations, it’s first come first served. Which means…if something caught your eye on the menu, you should get there early or else they could run out.

The pop up starts at 6:00 p.m. and goes until 10:00 p.m.

Nancy Whiskey’s is located at 2644 Harrison Street in Detroit.

Bonus!!

The class starts at 7:00 p.m. and goes until 8:30 p.m. Yoganic Flow is located at: 1938 Franklin Street Suite 110 in Detroit.
