Hey there everyone!

I hear we are about to be buried in snow this weekend. Which really stinks because there are some really great events happening this weekend.

So I guess I’m going to say to stay safe out there, but if you find a break, here’s what’s happening.

Weekend of J Dilla

The Charles H. Wright Museum and the Detroit Institute of Art are partnering together to bring you an entire weekend dedicated to the music and legacy of legendary Detroit hip-hop producer J Dilla.

Friday Night Live at the DIA will have The Music of J Dilla in the Rivera Court. Performances will take place at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday there will be a family performance with Cecelia Sharpe & Urban Strings II Youth Ensemble at the DIA. The performance will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Rivera Court.

Sunday will be the 7th Annual Dilla Youth Day at the Charles H. Wright Museum.

Come celebrate the life and legacy of J. Dilla. Kids will be able to learn how to lay down a track, write your own rhymes, breakdance, and so much more.

All of these events are free to attend. You can find more information about all of the events at the DIA website and the Charles H. Wright Museum website

While we’re talking about J Dilla I just want to send you over to this post we did back in December.

Empty Bowls with Gleaners Food Bank

It’s time again for the 26th annual Empty Bowls event at Pewabic in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank.

For the past few months students and artists have been designing soup bowls in preparation for this popular event.

People buy a bowl (which can cost between $5 and $40) and they get a free bowl of soup and bread. Area restaurants provide the soup and breads.

Proceeds go to Gleaners Community Food Bank. Gleaners can provide three meals for every dollar raised.

This Saturday is suppose to be a cold one, so why not warm up your belly while helping those in need.

When: Saturday, February 10 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. This event is first come first served, so get there early. People tend to start lining up around 9:00 a.m.
