I hope you all have been having a great week so far. I know that the jump in temperature put me in a much better state of mind. It’s amazing how warm 37 degrees feels when you’ve spent over a week at near negative temperatures.

There are a ton of great events going on this weekend.

Let’s get into this weeks events!

The Royal Tenenbaums at The Redford

I don’t know what it is about The Royal Tenenbaums, but it is one of my favorite movies. Maybe it’s because the family is so dysfunctional and eccentric that it made my own family not seem so weird.

The Redford Theater will be showing this Wes Anderson masterpiece on Friday, January 12.

The best part about checking out a film at The Redford is that tickets are $5 per person. Not to mention the fact that The Redford is turning 90 years old this year.

When: Friday, January 12 at 8 p.m.

Where: The Redford Theater 17360 Lahser Road Detroit, Michigan 48219

It should go without saying that this event is for adults only.

January Citywide SOUP

If you’re looking for something fun to do, that will also have a positive impact on someone trying to do something in Detroit you really need to get to Detroit SOUP this Sunday night.

Detroit SOUP is a group of people who come together to eat, listen to people’s proposals, and then vote on who should receive the money they have collected from the evening. If this sounds like fun you should totally go.

SOUP is a potluck and organizers suggest bringing soup, salad, or dessert to contribute to the large group. (There is usually between 150-200 people who come to these SOUP events.)

There will also be a Build Institute Bazaar so come find out about some really cool businesses.

Bring in a donation of $10 to attend the SOUP. At the end of the night everything that is raised goes to who ever gets the most votes.

I’m sure you’re like “but Shi, all of the other Detroit SOUPS have been $5 bucks! What is with the price jump?”

According to the event post $5 will go to the winner and the remaining $5 will go to help keep Detroit SOUP afloat. You can read the whole cost breakdown over on the event post.

When: Sunday, January 14 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

Where: Jam Handy 2900 E Grand Boulevard Detroit, Michigan 48202
