Greetings to all of you.

We’ve made it through another week of winter! I say that deserves a drink.

I know that the North American International Auto Show has pretty much taken over the airwaves here in metro Detroit. But you’re not going to find that on this weekends City 5.

I know, I know we’re the Motor City and this stuff is important. However, there are some other great events happening this weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone!

On the Rocks Opening Reception, Lecture, and Pewabic Pop Up

There is a lot going on this weekend in the Pewabic World. I’m just going to lump it all together. Let’s do this.

Pewabic has a new exhibition that will be opening on Friday night. On the Rocks: An Exhibition for and Related to Drinking Vessels.

The exhibition will feature nearly 200 pieces from around the world.

The opening reception will take place at Pewabic from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

“The Art of Drinking” lecture by Pete Pinnell who is professor of art at University of Nebraska–Lincoln will be held at the College of Creative Studies at 6:00 p.m.

Both events are free. You can find out more information here.

On to the Pewabic Pop Up.

On Saturday and Sunday Pewabic will have a Pop Up at the Guardian Building. If you’re going to have a Pewabic Pop Up, this is the place to have it. Am I right?

Members of Pewabic’s design team and archivist Kimmie Dobos will be on hand to take part of this rare event.

If you make it out on Saturday you can also get a signed copy of the book Pewabic Pottery: A History Handcrafted in Detroit by Cara Catallo.

The Pop Up will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

MiSci Frankenstein200

Are your kids going stir crazy from having to stay inside this winter? If so I have just the thing to get those little minds buzzing.

The Michigan Science Center will be hosting Frankenstein200 which is a modern take on Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein.

There will be a ton of hands on activities for kids of all ages to take part in. The best part is that these activities will help kids foster an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics (STEM).

Frankenstien200 will take place on Saturday, January 20 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

General admission for the Michigan Science Center is $14 for adults, $11 for child 12 and under or senior citizens (65+). Children under age two are free.

The Michigan Science Center is located at 5020 John R Street Detroit, MI 48202

Old Empire, Jay Gonzalez (of Drive By Truckers), and Emma Guzman for MiResonance

The Planet Ant will be hosting a fundraiser for MiResonance on Saturday night. MiResonance is a non-profit that helps provide access to mental health services.

There will be plenty of great music from Old Empire, Jay Gonzalez from the Drive By Truckers, and Emma Guzman.

Tickets for the show are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. All proceeds will go towards MiResonance.

The benefit will take place on Saturday, January 20 doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show will start at 8:00 p.m.

The show will take place at the Ant Hall 2320 Caniff Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

X-Coast at Whiskey Disco

Looking for some 90’s house music? Maybe you want to pretend it is summer and that it isn’t freaking freezing outside? If so look no further than HOTBOXED at the Whiskey Disco.

X-Coast will be bringing his 90’s house blend with summer beach vibes to the Whiskey Disco this Saturday night.

This will be the first time that X-Coast will perform in Detroit.

Tickets to see X-Coast are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. This is a 21 and over show.

Saturday, January 20 at 10:00 p.m.

The Whiskey Disco is located at 2 John R Detroit, Michigan 48226

PizzaPlex Mystery Movie Night

Sometimes the best thing to do on a Sunday night is to pick up a pizza and watch a movie.

At the PizzaPlex you can do just that. Every Sunday night they have a Mystery Movie Night.

Check out the event page because they give three clues to what movie will be playing that evening. If you guess the right movie you could win a free beer.

The movie starts at 8:00 p.m.

PizzaPlex is located at 4458 W Vernor Highway, Detroit, Michigan 48209

It’s no secret that I love the Detroit Mercantile in Eastern Market.

If you are looking for some great Detroit and antique items I suggest heading to Detroit Mercantile because they will be having a sale. This rarely happens.

All new items will be 40% off and all antique items are 20% off.

The sale will run Saturday, January 20 through Sunday, January 28.
