This Friday is Veteran’s Day, so let’s not forget the reason you might have a three day weekend. For those of you and their families who have served our country, thank you for your service.

Buhl Bar Presents: Nicole New and The Peterboro – Detroit 

Are you in the mood to step back in time? Head over to the Buhl Bar in the Buhl Building on Friday, November 11 for a special performance by Nicole New. The songstress will take you back to Prohibition with her songs. She will be accompanied by a pianist and trumpet player.

If you’re in the mood for food, The Peterboro will be providing appetizers.

There will be a $15 entertainment fee added to each tab.

Two James Third Anniversary Party – Detroit

One of our favorite distilleries is turning three! Head over to the Two James tasting room on Friday, November 11 to celebrate their birthday.

To celebrate the anniversary they will be releasing their 10 Year Cask Strength Grass Widow Reserve and the J. Riddle Peated Bourbon.

There will be more than the libations flowing. There will be food provided by Katio. Assemble Sound will be spinning the tunes, and there will be a special appearance by the Detroit Party Marching Band.

Fall Film Series: Detroit Remember When: Made In The Motor City – Detroit 

If you’re feeling like a bit of a history lesson this weekend make your way over to the Detroit Historical Museum. They will be showing the documentary Made In The Motor City by Bill Kubota on Saturday and Sunday.

The film will take viewers throughout Detroit and show them the history of some of our favorite Detroit made products from Sanders Fudge, Vernors, Buddy’s Pizza, and Better Made Potato Chips. After the film there will be a question and answer session with Bill Kubota.

On Saturday, November 12 there will be an opportunity to meet a host of authors that have written books about Detroit-made products. Books can be purchased in the Detroit Historical Museum gift shop. This is your chance to meet one of my favorite Detroit authors Karen Dybis. She wrote a great book about Better Made Potato Chips.

Admission to the museum and film are free, however you might need to pay for parking.

Off World Arcade’s Monthly Evening of Electronic Amusements – Detroit 

If you love old school arcade games head downtown to Checker Bar for an evening of video games, good food, and music.

Checker Bar will be releasing a new Detroit brew from New Holland Brewing Company. The new beer called HOPTRONIX is a double IPA.

Hello Records will be spinning the vinyl records to keep you all entertained.

There will be a raffle for a classic console, tickets for the raffle will be $5 per ticket.

Admission is $8 per person

Fantasticon – Mt. Clemens 

Gibraltar Trade Center will be hosting Fantasticon, a weekend filled with comic books and pop culture.

There will be nerd trivia, Marvel and DC panels, cosplay contests, and a lot of different vendors.

Don’t forget to stop by the Podcast Detroit booth at Fantasticon. They will be doing some live broadcasting throughout the weekend. You can purchase tickets in advance for a discounted price. 2 day pass (only available in advance)- $12.50, Saturday $8.50, Sunday $5.50.

Day of admission price: Saturday $12, Sunday $8.00 Kids 5 and under are free.
