The holiday season might be a few months out, but the Holiday Window Walk will be here before we know it.

Lawrence Technological University’s Detroit Center for Design + Technology (DCDT) in Midtown is organizing a holiday design contest where 10 Detroit businesses will be paired with local artists and designers to work on a holiday display. The best window display will win a monetary prize.

This is the first year for the Holiday Window Walk, and the directors are currently looking for businesses and designers to participate.

The businesses and designers will be announced in early October, and the displays will be unveiled to the public on Thursday, November 9.

The public is encouraged to visit the participating businesses through the holiday shopping season. If you visit the locations you can use the hashtag #DCDTHoliday on all social media.

Judges will announce the winning business and designer in early December.

Here is how to get involved with this event.

If you own a business and would like to participate in the Holiday Window Walk you can send an email with your business name, contact, address and the amount of window space you can devote. The application deadline is Friday, September 29, 2017.

Designers who are interested in in creating a window display you also need to send an email with your name, resume details, contact information, a 100 word description on why you want to be a competitor and up to 3 examples of past work. The application deadline is Friday, September 29, 2017.

Each window will have a budget of up to $500, which the chosen business will be responsible to cover. The money will be used in full for the design materials.
