Great news football fans (or soccer fans, depending on your vernacular).

A few months ago we reported that Detroit City FC was moving ahead with he revamp and take over of Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.

Well, on Wednesday the club announced that their crowdfunding investment campaign had reached the minimum $400,000 goal needed to secure the fundraising pot, and begin prepping Keyworth Stadium for the start of the 2016 season kicking off in mid-May.

The campaign funds, which is now the largest of its kind in Michigan history, came from more than 340 Michigan-based individuals and businesses who were interested in supporting the team.

Though the stadium will remain the property of Hamtramck Public Schools (HPS) after renovations are complete, Detroit City FC will retain the right to host 25 games and community events throughout the year over the course of a 10-year lease agreement. Hamtramck Public School sports teams will still have regular access to the stadium throughout this time.

This decision helps solidify the team’s goal of not only building a fabulous stadium for players and fans to enjoy, but also a venue that would serve the Hamtramck community by hosting school sports teams, community events, and more.

The severely outdated stadium is in need of significant improvements, and these funds will go to fix issues like structural improvements to the grandstands, the mending of bleachers, locker rooms, restrooms and lighting.

Though this landmark goal has been achieved, the team is making a final push to raise an additional $750,000, which would cover the full scope of renovation costs.

Want to invest? The campaign is live for another 10 days—coming to an end on February 15—so you better act fast. Also, in order to be a part of the project you must be a Michigan resident (sorry ex-pats).
