An affordable pizza spot and a cupcake shop are no more on Woodward Avenue in Midtown.
The Detroit Pizza Company, a place that opened about three years ago and offered 89 cent slices of pizza and one topping pizza for $5.99, closed their doors on August 10 with little public warning.
Nom Nom’s Cupcake Factory, which has same owner, also shut their Midtown location as well as their other retail location in Westland. They will be continuing with special orders on their website.
The note on the door says “We wish we had time to say goodbye, but it just wasn’t possible. Thank you for all of the memories!”
Detroit Pizza Company was rated three stars on Yelp; Nom Nom’s Cupcakes, three and a half.
The Midtown retail spot is in what should be a prime location.
The Park Shelton building at 15 East Kirby is next to a QLINE stop, steps from the Detroit Institute of Arts and in the same building as the much talked about Peacock Room and the high end restaurant Chartreuse.
Some might remember that the spot once was home to Good Girls Go To Paris Crepes, a popular locally owned restaurant that eventually met the similar fate as the Detroit Pizza Company.
The Park Shelton at one time had renters paying north of $1,300 a month. It’s now luxury condos – a unit according to Redfin that was 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms recently sold for $329,000 and has an HOA fee of $825. According to their website, the building is sold out.
