Although the fancy DTE outage map is down, there is an power outage map by zip code that the company is manually updating every half hour.

We’ve turned that map from 9:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. into an animated gif to see the progress of repair work by zip code.

To best understand the map, know that this is by zip code and not to the specific neighborhood and block level like the regular map that isn’t currently online. A detailed map is available if you download the DTE app for your smartphone on the Apple Store or Google Play.

There is also a color code. Red is the hardest hit, where there are more than 10,001 customers impacted; Orange, 5,001-10,000; Fuchsia, 2,001-5,000; Yellow, 1,001-2,000; Light blue, 101-1,000 outages. The uncolored areas are where there are 0-100 outages and there is minimal impact.

Suffice it to say, as of this writing, there are still a lot of colors on this map. The latest information provided says that 665,000 customers are without power in southeast Michigan.

Here’s an update on Friday showing that 340,000 are still without power, with an updated map.

Be safe out there.

We’re going to update this animation as the day goes on, but if you want the most up to date PDF version of the outage map, visit the DTE Energy website here.
