Two nods for establishments in the Corktown neighborhood from Foursquare, an app that highlights the best things around town across the country as highlighted by users.
Mercury Burger Bar and the Sugar House bar, at Michigan and 14th, are across the street from each other – almost a symbiotic relationship where you could grab dinner and then head over for a craft cocktail.
The ranking was based on the reviews and feedback of Foursquare users.
Mercury Burger Bar got highlighted as the best burger joint in Michigan as part of a ranking of the best burger in each state. The restaurant and bar opened in 2012 and features a variety of burgers, poutine tater tots, and a full bar.
Foursquare highlighted reviews as part of their list, so here’s what it said from user Josh Keyes:
Mushroom Swiss burger, poutine fries and a vanilla shake with bourbon added! Amazing!
Sugar House opened in 2010 and since then has been one of the oft-talked about bars in the city, with plaudits from a variety of magazine and publications. It was named one of the top 50 cocktail bars in the United States.
The highlighted review from user Pat Cold said:
My favorite bar in Detroit. Next to Sloe’s [sp] in Corktown. Cool and relaxed setting, competent bartenders, high quality drinks. I personally loved the blue blazer and the smoke infused cocktails.
