Before you know it, the school year will be here. With that in mind, there are a lot of kids who need school supplies.

To help out, Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is partnering with the Detroit Public Schools Community District (that’s what the former Detroit Public Schools are now called) to help students and teachers prepare for the upcoming school year by hosting a Back-to-School Supply Drive.

The much-needed items will be collected between August 1 and August 25.

“HAP has a strong tradition of giving back to the community wherever we can,” said Tom Spring, director of wellness and community outreach, Health Alliance Plan.  “The Detroit Public Schools serve the families of Detroitand so does HAP.  When there’s a need, we want to work together to address it.”

All supplies donated will be given directly to the DPSCD for use in its classrooms this year.

The public is encouraged to participate by donating new (unused and unopened) supplies on the following list:

  • Notebooks (wide rule and/or college rule)
  • Filler paper (wide rule and/or college rule)
  • Computer paper (reams)
  • Crayons (16-pack)

  • Folders with pockets and prongs
  • Large Erasers
