Prom season is upon us. That means high school girls from around the area will be looking for the perfect dress, shoes, purse, and jewelry.

It’s been a while since I have gone to prom (like seventeen years), but I remember getting outfitted for prom costing my parents a small fortune.

Not being able to afford a dress shouldn’t get in the way of someone being able to go to prom. This is where Comerica and Hope Closet comes in.

This year Comerica and Hope Closet are holding a Prom Dress drive from March 20 through April 7.

Hope Closet provides free formal dresses to high school students, so they can go to events like prom.

The community is invited to donate their new or gently used formal dresses, purses, shoes, jewelry, and wraps to participating Comerica locations throughout Metro Detroit.

“Our goal is to provide young women with the opportunity to attend special high school events with a dress of their choice regardless of financial constraints or limitations,” said Whitney Drake, founder and president of Hope Closet. “We’re thankful for partners like Comerica who help to make this goal possible. Each donation helps make a prom dream come true for a young woman in Metro Detroit.”

If you happen to have any of these items taking up space in your closet and you want to donate them there are collection sites throughout metro Detroit.
