Nothing says “Happy Friday” like a deep-fried, ring-shaped, glazed delicacy on National Donut Day. The whole nation is celebrating, and Detroit is no different. That’s right, there’s a national day for everything, and National Donut Day may be the best one yet, especially in Detroit. Obviously, the big chain players are getting their free donuts out, but also be sure to check the local alternatives.

The big boy of the donut game, Dunkin will be giving away free donuts with every purchased beverage during the day. There’s like a bazillion locations around Metro Detroit, and you can find them here.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

To fully show their appreciation for their donut-loving customers, Krispy Kreme will be giving away free donuts all day, with no need for any purchase. We’re pretty sure the lines are going to be long for this one. Here’s where you can find some of them in the area.

And of course, make sure to go out and support the local donuts in the area. Open 24 hours, this long-term stalwart of neighborhood donut shops allows for purchase at any time of the day. Which frankly, there are times we all need a late-night donut fix. Honestly, if you’re all about Detroit, you need to do Dutch Girl. At least once. Maybe twice. We won’t tell.

Krema

More than a donut, the treats have been coined as Kremnuts. With a variety of flavors, they are baked daily for the upmost fresh flavor. This is definitely the highest end of the National Donut Day picks, but why not. Everyone needs a little class in their baked goods sometimes. After all, there are a whopping 81 layers in this thing.

A little far from downtown, this Dearborn donut shop retains its old-time décor with its heavenly donuts 24-hours of the day. The decor, as a fan said, is straight out of the 1960’s, but frankly, it’s quite charming. ‘Murica. ‘Donuts. Need we say more?
