Detroit Passport to the Arts (DP2A), a nonprofit dedicated to engaging the next generation of arts patrons in Detroit, is hosting a unique night of film viewing, glamour, and Academy Award-inspired festivities.

“Hollywood in Detroit” will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Detroit Film Theatre. Guests will watch Oscar-nominated short films before enjoying a free shuttle ride to the Detroit Historical Museum to dance the night away at an unforgettable after-party featuring food, drinks, and live entertainment.

The DP2A’s most popular program, “Hollywood in Detroit” started in 2009, and it routinely attracts hundreds of young professionals to downtown Detroit each year.

“This goes far beyond viewing short films – it’s an entire experience,” said DP2A Director Margo Strebig. “From the moment they enter the door, our guests will feel the unique energy of the evening. They will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet, experience some of the best films of the year and mingle with new and old friends at our all-inclusive after-party. This is a memorable event that Detroiters can’t get anywhere else.”

Usually, to attend any of the DP2A events, guests must be passport holders; however, “Hollywood in Detroit” is open to the public. The organization wants to ensure that this one-of-a-kind event overcomes many of the barriers that prevent young Detroiters from enjoying the city’s cultural experiences.

“Young professionals and recent graduates in the Detroit area find themselves disconnected from each other and from a world-class arts and culture scene in the city. This event gives them an opportunity to get connected to both and experience a taste of the entire program,” said DP2A Board Chair Jerry Mangona.

Tickets for “Hollywood in Detroit” are $29 and include the screening at the Detroit Film Theatre and the after-party at the Detroit Historical Museum. To purchase tickets, visit dp2a.org or call 248-559-2095. Guests can start strutting down the red carpet to the theatre at 6 pm. The film screening will begin at 7 pm.
